on this day, Holi is celebrated with great joy, excitement, and enthusiasm. this day is celebrated on a night before the festival of colors Holi(Dhulendi) which will be celebrated on on 2nd March 2018. The Holika Dahan is related to the story of Prahlad, Holika, Hrinyakashyapa. on this day, it’s a ritual that the burning of the demon Holika knew to be as “HOLIKA DAHAN”. the Holika Dahan is done by burning materials like wood, broken furniture, clothes, cow dung, etc outside the home. this is a belief that victory of good over evil.
According to historians, there is a brutal king whose name is Hrinyakashyapa. he was very cruel and wanted that his kingdom prays him, not the god Vishnu. he forcefully ask his kingdom to pray him as god if anyone goes against him then some strict action will be taken for him like beaten in a cage, hanged to death, etc. the citizens have to forcefully pray to Hrinyakshyapa. one day, the king watched his son Prahlad is praying to the god Vishnu, he asked his son to stop praying god Vishnu and start to pray me but Prahlad used to refuse to pray for his father as a god.

due to frustration, anger, tensed , the king decided to kill his son. the king tryed many efforts to kill his son but he get failed in all efforts because of the blessings of Lord Vishnu. finally, the king Hrinyakshyapa took help of his sister HOLIKA who was blessed with drape which protected herby burning from fire.the king created a plan that her sister and his son Prahlad will sit in a burning bowl of fire. the Holika got burnt and prahlad saved from burning due to the blessings of the Lord Vishnu. the citizens of the kingdom get shocked and established the faith in god.
